This day marked the first and last time I saw Bren Orton. We photographed this with a large crew at Outlet Falls in 2017, with Rafa Ortiz, Nick Troutman, and Dane Jackson in the mix as well.
Tragically, Bren lost his life this year in Switzerland on the Melezza River. If you speak with any whitewater kayaker who reaches the level that Bren did, they understand the responsibility that comes with knowing death is an option every time they paddle out. When you speak with most kayakers, it’s almost certain they’ve lost friends to the river. That said, the passion Bren had was contagious, and his lust for life, which he passed on to so many, will continue to inspire others.  | | This tribute piece can be found in the fall issue of Kayak Session Magazine. |
