Last spring I had the opportunity to head down to Virgin Utah with the crew from GMC and Natural Selection for another desert project, this time centered around freeride mountain biking with Cam Zink. I was on the still photography side of things.
If you know mountain biking, then you already know the history behind this terrain. The cliffs, ridgelines, and loose desert soil surrounding Virgin have become legendary through years of Red Bull Rampage progression. Riders have spent decades pushing the limits of what’s possible out here, building lines into impossible looking terrain and redefining what can be done on a bike.
This project brought us back into that environment with a stacked production crew and a mission focused on capturing the scale and intensity of freeride mountain biking in its rawest form. While the film crew worked on motion, I was focused on the still photography side, documenting everything from sunrise scouting missions to full speed riding sessions deep in the desert.
One of the standout moments from the trip came when Cam went back to revisit a jump that had previously gone wrong during the 2025 Rampage season. Instead of avoiding it, he came back ready to push it even further, throwing a massive superman seat grab over the feature and riding away clean. Watching that process unfold in person was a reminder of how much calculated risk and mental commitment goes into riding at this level. What looks effortless in a final clip is usually built on years of experience, crashes, adjustments, and trust in your instincts.
