Fun to see images that are still going to print. This one made it into the 2025 Photo Annual of Slush Magazine. When the photo editor asked me to do a write up about it I came up with a complete blank but I channeled my thoughts to create this.

"There was a time in my youth when I was at a bookstore flipping through a magazine, and two strangers next to me picked up a snowboard magazine. They scoffed and said, "Professional snowboarder?! That's like saying professional sledder." For some reason, that comment stuck with me. They were right in a way. What we do is essentially sledding upright on a board. It is silly kid stuff and that is exactly the point. We are part of this cult/ club of upright sledders, and it has the power to change your life for the better and sometimes for the worse. But it all begins with a simple toeside turn like the one here with Marissa Krawczak in the Oregon Cascades.
This shot was from our first backcountry mission of the season and the final shot of the day. The snowpack was shallow and expectations were low, but days like this spent chasing turns always fills the cult cup nicely."
