Every year, I team up with Western Rivers Conservancy to tackle some of their projects that they are working on. This particular project was more dear to my heart because it is fairly close to where I reside and play.
Here's a little breakdown on the area:
The Little Deschutes River is a scenic tributary of the Deschutes River, featuring forested wetlands and marshes. Paulina Creek, which flows into the Little Deschutes, is noted for its waterfalls, fishing, and surrounding pine forests, much of which is protected within national forests. The Western Rivers Conservancy (WRC) has purchased a 655-acre property called Paulina Meadows at the confluence, which includes key stretches of the Little Deschutes and Paulina Creek. WRC's goal is to transfer the land to the Bureau of Land Management, complementing ongoing conservation efforts by the Deschutes Land Trust, which is working to restore year-round flow to Paulina Creek. This initiative will help preserve the region's diverse forest, meadow, riparian, and wetland habitats. More on the project (here). |
