Western Rivers Conservancy | Bear River, Willapa Bay & the Yakima

Western Rivers Conservancy has been putting me on rivers to photograph for years now. Some rivers that they send me out on are well known and others are obscure and somewhat difficult to get into, the Bear River is one of those. The Bear River is a tributary of the Chehalis River, which eventually flows into Grays Harbor on the coast of Washington. The river and its ecology have been significantly impacted by human activities over time. The logging and farming practices in the area resulted in increased sedimentation and nutrient runoff, leading to degraded water quality and harm to the river's fish populations. Today, there are various efforts underway to restore the ecological health of the Bear River and that’s where Western Rivers Conservancy steps into basically bring a portion of the land back to a healthier state. PROVING GROUNDS PACIFIC CITY 2023 - NATURAL SELECTION

View this post on Instagram Creative freedom was the name of the game with this five day event. Proving Grounds put on by H5 Events keeps evolving, this year it was hosted by Carson Storch on the Oregon Coast. Carson and I have been friends and for a long time and one thing that I noticed about him is when he gets an idea he completely follows through with it, front to back. He's a workhorse. I was fortunate enough to be the still photographer for this event where there was some amazing biking. I shot alongside some incredible videographers, directors and editors as well. Backcountry Magazine Issue 151| The Isolation Issue

A few photos from the past landed in the Backcountry Magazine issue 151 which provides a thoughtful and nuanced look at the complex issue of isolation in the backcountry. This particular issue is about the isolation that comes with backcountry skiing and snowboarding. The articles in the issue explore the different ways that people experience isolation, both positive and negative. Some people find that isolation can be a time of peace and solitude, while others find it to be a time of loneliness and anxiety. The issue also covers the Cascade volcano range i n the article "Turns All Year" written by Tom Halberg, the author discusses the possibility of skiing year-round in the Cascade Mountains. He begins by talking about the history of skiing in the Cascades, and how it has evolved over time.
