Gold Butte, Nevada

Bit again, but not by this guy. The desert tortoise, Mojave, NV.

This was another memorable little assignment with the Nevada Wilderness Project to photograph Gold Butte, Nevada. It was unforgettable because I landed in the hospital again.

Here's the sequence of events.

9:32p.m

Stung in the arm, by an unknown creature when I was out taking photos.

9:33p.m

Cleaned the sting, ignored it, lied in my tent.

9:55p.m

Venom started creeping up my arm, breathing started to feel weird, body started to feel tingly.

9:56p.m

The thought of anaphylactic shock creeped in my head.

9:57p.m

Freaked out, woke up John Wallin who was sleeping in the tent next to me and demanded that we head to the nearest hospital, which was an hour and a half drive on unforgiving dirt roads.

10:02p.m

John's SUV depreciated in value by half on the drive, hitting rocks, potholes and the occasional little creature pushing 50mph.

10:20p.m

Started to feel loopy, irrational and dozing off. John insisted that we talk about things that I didn't want to talk about in an effort to keep me awake.

10:37p.m

Body started to feel like electric shocks pulsating throughout my body.

11:37p.m

Made it to the Mesquite, NV hospital, got out the SUV and my body was half soaked from the ice that I was holding on my arm.

12:37a.m

The Doctor said, "You were most likely bit by a "Bark Scorpion" which is the most venomous scorpion in North America.

Dr, "The side effects will last about 8 hours and you will have troubles peeing."

Me, "great."

12:50a.m

Released from the hospital and recieved nothing for the sting, only a large bill.

Nevada's animal kingdom is flat out trying to do me in.
